Department of Expressive Therapies Prerequisites

Programs of Study in Expressive Therapies are a map to ensure students complete courses in a sequence that builds from semester to semester on their learning. To ensure appropriate scaffolding of course content, some courses have prerequisites which must be completed and passed.

Prerequisites for starting the second field training placement

NOTE: All students should be aware that the following courses must be completed and passed before they will be allowed to begin the second field training placement. Students also need approval from their Clinical Skills instructor and faculty advisor before beginning the second field training placement. [The course that aligns with the 2nd field training placement is Supervision II.]

  1. GEXTH 5032 Orientation to Expressive Therapies
  2. GEXTH 5102, 5112, 5117, 5110, or 5108/5109 Specialization Theories (Expressive Arts Therapy, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Drama Therapy, or Dance Movement Therapy)
  3. GEXTH 5103, 5113, 5118, 5909, or 6258 Specialization Group Counseling (Expressive Arts Therapy, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Drama Therapy, Dance Movement Therapy)
  4. GEXTH 5119 Clinical Skills and Applications
  5. GEXTH 6105 Examining Power, Privilege and Oppression in Clinical Practice
  6. GEXTH 6434, 6432, 6430, 6433, or 6431 Trauma-Informed Practice: Supervision I (Expressive Arts Therapy, Drama Therapy, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, or Dance Movement Therapy)
