Add-License Preparation for Inclusive Special Education Moderate Disabilities (15 credits)
This program has been approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for Initial License in Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8), Moderate Disabilities (5-12) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
This program prepares teachers who already hold an initial license to add a license in moderate disabilities. In addition to this coursework candidates must document 150 hours in an internship in an appropriate placement and it is the responsibility of the district to document that. Lesley University will document that competencies were met through the coursework but will not endorse the license. Grounded in evidence-based practices, the program emphasizes an inclusive approach to special education, in which problem solving, engagement, self-determination, and social justice are promoted for all. Coursework is designed to document required competencies outlined by Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Program prerequisites: active Initial or Professional teacher license with SEI endorsement.
