Course Data Lifecycle in myLesley

Course Data Lifecycle Policy and Process

  • Undergraduate and master's level course sites have a lifecycle of 2 years from their end date.
  • Doctoral level course sites have a lifecycle of 5 years.
  • Courses are disabled in myLesley (Blackboard) on a daily basis based on their lifecycle or status.
  • Archives of disabled course sites will be deleted 5 years after the course has been removed from Blackboard.  Archives of course sites contain course content but no identifiable student data.

The Information Technology Department emails faculty a notification approximately one month prior to each course site expiring, with instructions for faculty members to archive their course materials for their own records. Further training is available on archiving course materials by contacting elis@lesley.edu.

Each course site in myLesley (Blackboard) has a data quota of 5GB. Any faculty member reaching that quota should email elis@lesley.edu for a consultation on best practices of data usage or possible increase of the course quota.

Exceptions for any extended access for individual faculty to myLesley/Blackboard data beyond the course lifecycle are for research purposes only and require approval of the Institutional Review Board (IRB). Any proposal for extended access to data will conform to IRB policies and data access will end with the expiration of the 1 year IRB approval period. The IRB application guidelines are available in this handbook and online: https://lesley.edu/faculty-staff/faculty-academic-resources/teaching-and-scholarship/institutional-review-board .
