Licensure Only Instructional Technology Specialist 24 credits

This program of study is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for Initial Teacher License in Instructional Technology Specialist (K-12) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

This program prepares teacher specialists to provide informed coaching and mentoring support for their school community, grades K-12, as they explore, adopt, and integrate educational technology. Through hands-on and real-world experiences, these teacher leaders will experience how digital literacy and computer science practices and standards are used as a vehicle to enhance the curriculum and amplify student learning.

Program of Study

Program Prerequisites: Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university, a prior teaching credential in any classroom level of content area recognized by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and evidence of course work in human development and Sheltered English Instruction. If unable to provide evidence of this course work, EEDUC 5122 Development and Learning and EECLD 6115 or 6116 Sheltered English Instruction will be added to the program of study.

Additional Requirements Prior to Program Completion: One year as a teacher or an education role accepted by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and passing the Communication and Literacy MTEL.

Practicum prerequisites: Successful completion of a 100-hour pre-practicum experience and required pre-practicum courses; satisfactory completion of appropriate Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) requirements. This full-time, full-semester experience is accompanied by a weekly seminar and requires a field experience fee.
