IWRIT 6500 Craft & Practice III

The Craft & Practice seminars are integral to the MFA-VLA curriculum because they equip artists with the critical language and analytical frameworks necessary to articulate their creative vision. Through close reading of literature, stylistic experimentation in multiple genres, as well as rigorous discussion of literary traditions and craft techniques, students learn to contextualize their work within broader aesthetic and cultural discourses. This ability to express literary craft with clarity and precision is essential for professional critique. By pairing creative practice with critical written analysis, the seminars foster intellectual depth and interdisciplinary fluency, enabling artists to communicate the conceptual underpinnings of their work confidently in both written and spoken form.
