CLITR 2400 Outsiders in Literature

This course examines literature written in English by authors whose ideas or identities put them at odds with historically mainstream notions of "acceptable." We will study texts considered “radical" in content, form, and language in order to consider the impact of these writers on American culture at large and their role in fostering social change. The course will particularly feature works by queer, BIPOC, and women writers who inhabit the margins and speak truth to power simply by writing unapologetically from within their communities' experiences.
