EEDUC 6039 Phonics, Vocabulary, Spelling and Word Study in Grades K-8
This course examines the rationales and theories underpinning the teaching of phonics, phonological awareness, vocabulary, spelling, and word study, grades K-8. It includes an overview of current issues and research regarding exemplary word study, phonics, and vocabulary instruction. Participants learn about a continuum of learning; examine how to support students’ in applying their knowledge to reading and writing text; and learn how to assess students’ learning. Supporting diverse students, including multilingual learners is discussed.
