Accelerated M.Ed. in English as a Second Language (PreK-6) 36 credits

Accelerated Degree Program for undergraduate Elementary Education majors

This program has been approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for Initial Teacher License in English as Second Language (PreK-6 or 5-12) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

This accelerated program for Lesley undergraduate education students in Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle School, or Secondary School programs leads to a master’s degree and one of two licenses. This program of study is designed to prepare teachers with the skills needed to address the learning needs of the ever-growing number of English language learners in our schools. In order to be accepted into the program, students must have a GPA of 3.3 or higher during the first four semesters of college.

Program requirements:

Initial licensure from Lesley University at the undergraduate level in Early Childhood, Elementary, or Middle/Secondary. Included in this is meeting all initial licensure requirements including all coursework to meet cross-cutting Subject Matter Knowledge standards including the Sheltered English Immersion endorsement, and a pre-practicum and practicum requirement. Level I and II in a foreign language at the undergraduate level (can be waived with demonstrated proficiency)

Program of Study

EECLD 6001 and EECLD 6115 will be taken in junior year.

EECLD 6002 and EECLD 6004 will be taken in senior year.

Practicum (6 credits):

Prerequisites: Completion of a 100 hour pre-practicum experience and all practicum documentation (including applicable MTEL score reports); practicum application submitted by April 1 for Fall or November 1 for Spring; cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; completion of all pre-practicum courses with no outstanding incomplete or failing grades. This full time, semester-long experience requires an accompanying seminar course and includes a field experience fee and 6 credits of tuition. Field Placement Office must approve all practicum placements.
