Lesley University Library welcomes all students at Lesley University – whether off-campus or on-campus – from the main Sherrill Library on the Brattle Campus, and the John & Carol Moriarty Library at the Lunder Arts Center. The Library offers resources and services in support of our students’ success in undergraduate and graduate programs in the arts, sciences, humanities, social sciences and education.

Whether coming to the Library via the Web or in person, students and faculty will find professional staff ready to help identify high-quality and authoritative resources ready to be integrated into their assignments, and learn how to cite academic texts to avoid plagiarism. Lesley librarians help students and faculty by telephone, email, text message and instant messaging, in the library or in classes, on campus or online. Students are encouraged to make use of the Library’s new online research portal, http://research.lesley.edu, which provides access to library resources through a single search box. In addition, the Library has launched DigitalCommons@lesley, http://digitalcommons.lesley.edu/, to preserve and promote the scholarly and creative output of students, faculty, and staff. It includes faculty and student research, university communications and publications, and collections from the university archives.

The Lesley Library’s academic and intellectual resources include e-books, journals, and images, as well as physical collections of books, journals, videos, DVD’s, teaching resources, and E-Readers. In addition, the Library circulates iPads to students, faculty and staff. Students needing books not available in our collections may request them through the Commonwealth Catalog, which provides access to the collections of over 300 public and academic libraries across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Students who visit the Sherrill Library are welcome to make use of both group and individual study spaces located throughout the building. The Library’s lower level consists of open space featuring a mix of casual seating and study tables and chairs. The public computers throughout the Library feature the same software installed throughout Lesley’s campus computer labs.

In January of 2015 the John & Carol Moriarty Library opened as part of the Lunder Arts Center at Lesley’s Porter Square campus. The Moriarty Library maintains a focused collection, specializing in the fields of fine art, art history, illustration, design, and photography in order to support students’ academic and visual research needs. The print collection of more than 10,000 books, DVDs, and videos is focused on modern and contemporary art and design themes. The Library has subscriptions to more than 80 current art journals and provides online access to scholarly articles through our full text art databases. A special collection of rare and artists’ books are available for use in the library. The Digital Image Collection contains high quality digital images, which are made available online and participates in the ARTstor project, a digital library of nearly one million images in the areas of art, architecture, the humanities, and social sciences. The Moriarty Library also features two group study rooms that students may reserve.

The Lesley University Archives, located in the Sherrill Library, collects, preserves, and organizes Lesley University's historical documents and makes them available for research by students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the public. Records and materials collected by the Lesley University Archives include university publications; photographs, negatives, and slides; audio and visual materials; selected alumni papers; the papers of former members of the faculty and administration; and memorabilia. Inquiries regarding the Archives and its collections may be made by calling 617.349.8573 or 1.800.999.1959 x8573.
