Lesley University - Counseling Center

The Lesley University Counseling Center (LUCC) provides short-term mental health services to support student learning and student success. We offer counseling services that are student-centered, collaborative, holistic, inclusive and culturally informed. Our understanding of identity and personal development is further informed by environmental, psychological, socio-cultural, spiritual, and other systemic factors impacting society. We strive to provide a confidential and safe space where students can work with a therapist to get the focused professional help they need to benefit them personally and academically.

To support the greatest number of students, LUCC staff offer a short-term therapy model of care to students currently enrolled in degree granting programs. These services include consultation, intake assessments, group therapy, individual counseling, referrals, psycho-educational workshops and wellness programs to support psychological resilience and wellness. Short-term counseling allows students the opportunity to learn coping skills, to practice emotional regulation, to develop strategies to change, to gain a deeper understanding of self and others, and to incorporate wellness techniques such as mindfulness for self-care.

Our staff is sensitive to issues of culture, ethnicity, gender identity, body image, differences in learning and ability, sexual orientation and spirituality. Counselors help students with a wide range of issues, including but not limited to academic concerns, adjustment to college, anxiety, depression, eating issues, identity issues, family concerns, grief/ loss, relationships, self-esteem, self-harm/ suicidality, substance/alcohol abuse, etc. Students who desire or would benefit from longer term therapy or specialized therapy (i.e. Dialectical Behavior Therapy, eating disorder treatment, trauma therapy, etc.) will be provided referrals to local community providers in the area. Students currently on psychiatric medication or needing medication are encouraged to stay in touch with their current psychiatric prescribers or their local Primary Care Physician or find a local prescriber on their health insurance.

The office is open daily, Monday through Friday, 9:00 to 5:00 p.m. with some limited evening hours available. Appointments can be made by calling 617.349.8545 or by coming to the office directly. You can also email us at counselingcenter@lesley.edu and we will respond to you as soon as we can. Someone in crisis or who is in need of immediate urgent help should not use email or leave a message for us but call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
