Mission: The mission of the Lesley University Student Health Service (SHS) is to foster the academic success and social growth of Lesley students by supporting their health and well-being. We are committed to easy, equitable access to care and to promoting a safe and healthy campus community.
Enrollment: Undergraduate and Threshold students living in University housing are enrolled in the SHS when they sign the Residence Life Room, Meal Plan, and Health Services Contract. Care and services at the SHS are available independent of private health insurance. Full-time undergraduate students living off-campus may choose to enroll in the Student Health Service at the beginning of each semester by completing the Enrollment Application and paying the SHS fee ($445 per semester) Optional Student Health Service Contract;. Please contact our office for more information.
Services: Healthcare at the SHS is provided by nurse practitioners and includes, but is not limited to, care for acute and chronic illnesses and injuries, reproductive health services (contraception, pregnancy testing, STI testing), prescription management and health education on how to stay healthy in college. SHS also offers annual flu shots. All care and services are confidential and sensitive to differences in race, ethnicity, cultural background, sexual orientation, gender identity, and physical and cognitive ability.
Hours & Appointments: Clinical appointments, in person and virtual, are available during the academic year, following the same calendar as the Residence Halls. Appointments can be made by calling the SHS at 617.349.8222 or by emailing SHS@lesley.edu. Same day appointments are generally available, particularly if you call or email early in the day. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call campus Public Safety at 617.349.8888 or dial 9-1-1.
The office is open for administrative purposes on a reduced schedule during the summer and over breaks. Staff are available to assist you by phone or email during these times.
After Hours: If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call campus Public Safety at 617-349-8888 or dial 9-1-1. For non-urgent after hours scheduling, please send a secure message through the student patient portal: Lesley.medicatconnect.com. We will respond to your message when the office next opens. If you feel you need to be evaluated sooner, listed below are local urgent care clinics you can access using your personal health insurance.
Preparing for a Healthy Semester: We encourage students to stock their rooms with self-care essentials. The following is a list of suggested items to help manage symptoms and maximize comfort when you are feeling under the weather:
- Digital thermometer
- Hand sanitizer
- Disinfecting wipes (such as Clorox or Lysol)
- Tissue
- Face Masks
- Pain relieving/fever reducing medications, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)
- Decongestant, such as pseudoephedrine (Sudafed)
- Allergy medication, such as Allegra, Zyrtec, Claritin, or Benadryl
- Throat lozenges or cough drops
- Indigestion relief, such as TUMs, Pepto-Bismol, Pepcid
Please also make sure you have the following:
- Your health insurance card (or a picture of the card on your phone)
- Contact information for your PCP and any specialty-care providers you see regularly programmed into your phone
- Phone numbers for the SHS (617.349.8222) and Campus Safety (617.349.8888) and the SHS email address (SHS@lesley.edu) programmed into your phone
Prescription Medications: Please have a list on your phone that you can easily access of all your prescription medications. The list should include the name and dose of each medication, how often you take it, and the name of the prescriber. Ideally, you should plan to come to campus with at least a 30-day supply of each medication in its original packaging. If you would like to transfer your prescription to local pharmacy, you can find a list of options that are convenient to campus below. If you would like to discuss having your medications prescribed by an SHS clinician while you are at school, please be in touch to schedule a consultation. If you’re being prescribed medications by a psychiatrist, please make sure you have a 3 month supply of your medication or establish care with a local psychiatric prescriber.
Health Forms: Prior to arriving on campus, please complete the mandatory online health forms which you can find by logging into the Lesley medical portal (Lesley.medicatconnect.com). An annual TB screening questionnaire, a medical history form, and a medical release form are among the required health documents. Additionally, you must satisfy the Massachusetts required immunizations for college students. Enter the dates of each of your vaccines into the medical portal and upload an official copy of your immunization record. Students whose official documentation of state-mandated immunizations is not on file by the posted deadline may not be permitted to register for classes.
Health Insurance: Massachusetts law requires all full- and part-time students to be covered by a health insurance plan that meets the State’s minimum coverage requirements. Lesley University sponsors a health insurance plan through Gallagher Student Health that meets these requirements. Students with comparable insurance may be eligible to waive the Lesley- sponsored plan. More information can be found on the Gallagher website. A list of frequently asked questions can be found by clicking here.
It is important for students and families to be aware of what their health insurance coverage is and how it works. While the Student Health Service fee covers all services delivered on-site at the SHS, laboratory testing, diagnostic testing, specialty care performed by outside providers, ambulance transfers are billed to your health insurance directly.
Enter your health insurance information and upload a copy of your health insurance card into the Lesley medical portal (Lesley.medicatconnect.com).
