CHLTH 2047 The Ethical Use and Misuse of Drugs

A “drug” is broadly defined as any chemical agent that affects living processes. Drugs may pharmaceutical (used to prevent or cure a disease or alleviate illness symptoms), or they may be recreational (used for personal enjoyment.) The primary focus of this class is to critically examine ethically challenging issues that arise in drug development, drug usage, and drug law. Each issue will be evaluated through four moral frameworks: Principles, Agreements, Virtues, and End Consequences. This is known as the PAVE moral reasoning strategy.
