CAPPL 3600 Children's Literature and Social-Emotional Development

This Gen Ed Applications course provides students from multidisciplinary backgrounds an opportunity to explore literature for children and young adults that addresses themes of human development and social emotional learning. The course will explore concepts such as growth mindset, diversity, and social-emotional learning as they are explored in a variety of recently published texts. Student work will culminate in a creative, applied project that relates to each student’s major and/or career goal and helps students reflect on and synthesize their learning in the general education program. Final projects may include a choice of one of the following: creating a children’s book proposal/sketch, designing a therapy toolkit or series of lessons, or organizing a children’s literature event, business, or community action plan to address a human development problem of choice.
